For more than two decades, Scott Rusis worked as a narcotics detective and SWAT team member, using highly specialized strategies and equipment to support conventional police forces in crises. Scott Rusis’ experience led him to become the director of operations of Basic Black, an engineering company that manufactures bullet-resistant equipment for special forces and members of the law enforcement.
Basic Black, established in 2002, develops solutions for the special operations community (SOCOM), and other law enforcement agencies. Their protective gear is used by military personnel, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and rescue personnel. Their products, such as the roof and wall rack system that is applied to structures for artery protection, have been used in Afghanistan and the Persian Gulf.
Basic Black also manufactures ballistic riot shields, and a unique Thin Skin system, a protective peel-and-stick mechanism wherein blast panels that can be applied to surfaces to withstand fire, bullets, and blasts. Basic Black’s technologies are regularly tested in real-life scenarios such as mock prison riots, with great success.
